Almotamar.net - The Yemeni Council for Transparency in extractive industries has issued a transparency report regarding payments and revenues in the extractive industries in Yemen and it is the first of its kind in Yemen and the Middle East.

According to a statement , Almotamar.net received a copy of it , issuance and publication of the report comes for Yemen to prove it is proceeding forward in enhancing transparency and wise governance in the extractive industries as a firm approach and orientation of the political leadership and the government under leadership of President Ali Abdullah Saleh the first sponsor and owner of the first initiative for Yemen accession to world transparency during his attending of the London donors conference in November 2006 where Yemen’s vision was presented regarding the reforms in the good governance and investment environment.

The press statement said that Yemen publishing of statements on revenues of its oil returns in a report of the first initiative for transparency in the extractive industries is considered and important historical and democratic event as being the first of its kind in the region. What increases uniqueness and quality of the report is the conformity of the statements between the payments given to the government by oil companies working in the country with the revenues which the government revealed in the period of 2005-2006-2007. This makes Yemen a transparent country of the first place, adopting transparency as one of the components of the good governance and credibility in payments and receiving of the extractive industries sector.

The statement added that the report gives a brief account on extractive sectors of oil, crude oil rendered to the government for transport purposes, crude oil sent to Yemeni government refineries and all payments received by the government from the oil companies

Yemen got the candidate membership on 27 September 2007 and at present it is working on completing the rest of conditions to reach to representative member, with cooperation of partnership of the civil society and oil producing companies and support of the World Bank and the world transparency body in Oslo.
