Almotamar Net - The General Peoples Congress (GPC) accused the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) of working for cancelling the parliamentary elections scheduled in Yemen next year through the attempt to create tense political and economic situations in the society. Almotamar.net - The General People's Congress (GPC) accused the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) of working for cancelling the parliamentary elections scheduled in Yemen next year through the attempt to create tense political and economic situations in the society.

In an inter view to 25 September weekly published Thursday Head of the Political Office, the member of the General Committee of the GPC Abdullah Ahmed Ghanim accused the JMP of endeavoring for cancellation of the elections, saying " The JMP's media address which tries to tense up the situations in the society is not an innovated elections propaganda but a plan the JMP is preparing to cancel the elections so that there would be an opportunity available for it to attain power or taking part in it via a way other than the balloting boxes and here lies the danger. "

On the other hand the leading GOC member affirmed that the GPC is against postponement of elections and indicated that the latest meeting of the GPC's General Committee presided over by president Ali Abdullah Saleh, the leader of the party approved that the elections would be held on their date and there would be a resort to the constitution and the law in all procedures leading to holding the elections in a safe and honest form. He has also affirmed that against the JMP stand which is so far refusing understanding on the setting up of the supreme commission for elections the GPC would go to the parliament.

He said," We will not waste the time and won't submit to extortions of the JMP and we shall go to the parliament and seek arbitration of the majority for the formation of the supreme commission for elections from judges."

Mr Ghanim revealed that the JMP wants to negotiate with the GPC on the unity though the JMP parties do not say that openly, saying "We can interpret that through a group of statements. A month ago they said the priority is just the subject of the supreme commission for elections and any other questions should be delayed until we decide this question bit now the opposition says the priority is the southern issue and demanded us in the GPC to recognize the existence of the southern issue and our recognition of the southern issue is the entrance for reforming all the situations, i.e. the issue of the supreme commission for elections has retreated to a later time and that means the elections are no longer of concern for them. "

Despite of Mr Ghanim's confirmation of the GPC welcome and acceptance of accord on the issues submitted to dialogue he stressed the necessity that accord should into consideration of interests of all parties and not interests of one party without interests of the others.

He added that accordance should not be contradictory of the constitution and the law but must be done under the constitution and the law and dialogue on the basis of accord and should not deprive the GPC of benefiting from the majority it possesses at the parliament.

He said incase of disagreement in reaching a real result of accord "it is inevitable to resort to constitutional bodies particularly the parliament and seek arbitration, in this case, of the majority that represents the will of the people and this is the democratic national course we are proud of."
