Almotamar.net - The Head of the General People's Congress (GPC) Information Office Tareq al-Shamy has Monday expressed his surprise for some members of the parliament affiliated to the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) non-realisation of their responsibilities as members of a legislative power.

Al-Shamy said taking part or boycotting meetings of the parliament permanent committee or sessions of the parliament is a right to members and if those members affiliated to the JMP wished to boycott the meetings related to amendments of the elections laws is a matter of their own and a right guaranteed for them. He deemed that what is more important is respecting the constitution and the law so that the parliament would exercise its constitutional and legal tasks as elected legislative establishment.

The Head of the GPC Information Office added that members of parliament are the ones who implemented content of the agreement on principles in its part concerning expansion of the supreme commission for elections before the elections provided that the main elections commission would be re-shaped after the presidential and local elections held in 2006 from judges and that is what the draft of the amendment offered to the parliament by the government stipulates. Al-Shamy therefore expressed his surprise for the contradiction shown by JMP MPs in dealing with the agreement on principles signed before the presidential and local elections and afterwards. He wished that all MPs, particularly those of the JMP, would deal with responsibility away from attempts of tensing or impeding of the constitutional and legal rights.

On the hand al-Shamy denounced the lies unleashed by the JMP and instigation for acts of riot and spread of the spirit of division among the society, the most recent of which was what happened in Al-Dhalie city, clarifying that what is submitted is just lies and falsification of awareness and said conscription is done in accordance with population census and according to provisions of the service law. He affirmed that they (JMP) understand that very well but they on purpose try to excite the street and arouse seditions, calling the attention to consequences of such practices and their danger to the society and its stability.
