Almotamar.net - The United Nations Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for Yemen Jamie McGoldrick said that two years war in Yemen destroyed the lives of millions of people.
Mr.McGoldrick explained in a press conference on Tuesday in Sana'a that the impact of this catastrophe was harsh on civilians, stressing that about seven million women, children and men could be Victims of the famine that may occur during this year, 2017.
He also said that the Yemenis are the main victims of the conflict that has nothing to do with and that the belligerent parties had provoked and acted in a way to disregard their responsibilities.
As for two years of war in Yemen, Mr. McGoldrick said more than 50,000 civilians were killed or injured or disabled by the war that led Yemen to more despair.
He also reported that he had reported atrocities, including the killing of 1,450 children and injuring at least 2,450 others, in addition to recruiting 1572 children to fight or employ by the belligerent parties to perform non-military functions.
He explained that the last two years of this ongoing brutal conflict have led to waves of prolonged displacement following military operations along the western coastal areas.
The displacement is close to 50,000 people; moreover, two million people displaced across the country, the UN official said, adding that one million displaced people have returned to their homes temporarily due to the deterioration of conditions in each of the regions of origin and displacement.
