Mohammed Tahir almotamar.net - SANAA-A source at the Yemeni pilgrimage mission to Mecca confirmed there was no one killed in the fire that erupted on Monday afternoon that burned large arts of a building occupied by around 2000 Yemeni pilgrims located in Al-Ghaza St. in Mecca.
In a telephone conversation with almotamar.net the source said the 5 injured, including the Yemeni minister of Endowments fainted from the thick smoke of the fire that erupted in the first floor of the 7-storey building and were taken to hospital for treatment.
The source added that the minister Hamoud Abbad fainted during his entering the building on fire with a team of civil defense and he was hospitalized with the other affected person, indicating that the Yemeni pilgrims have been moved to another building.
Preliminary information reported that fire was caused by an electric short inside the building restaurant at the second floor, adding that the Yemeni pilgrims were outside the building at the time the fire erupted. He added the Saudi authorities managed to control the fire using fire brigades and helicopters which took part in offering aid to the injured and the building was being under repair.
