Almotamar.net - The Appeals section at the Specialised Penal court in Yemen began Saturday the first sitting for the trial of Sana'a cell composed of 38 persons accused of forming an armed gang and targeting personalities, military vehicles and a chain of explosions. Members of the cell are followers of Hussein al-Houthi who was killed earlier.
In today's sitting of the court chaired by Judge Saeed al-Qataa, the prosecution presented an appeal of the primary verdict issued against some of the defendants containing acquittal of some and considering the period spent by other some in prison as sufficient punishment. The prosecution demanded issuing the decided punishment and changing the preliminary verdict.
On his part lawyer Nazieh al-Imad presented a petition of appealing the primary sentence against defendants Fuad al-Imad and Mohammed al-Imad and the court decided adjournment until 9 June 2007 to allow the defendants appealed against to present their reply to the appeal of the prosecution and also entrusting the prosecution to bring to court the defendants who were released and did not attend the court and asked the prosecution to present its reply to defendants Fuad al-Imad and Mohammed al-Imad appeal .
The first instance section at the court had on 22 November 2006 ruled the execution of the first condemned person in Sana'a cell Ibrahim Mohammed Abdullah Sharif, acquitted three of the defendants for insufficient evidence.
