Almotamar.net - Officials in the governorate of Mahara said Monday a fisherman was shot by the crew of Bin Majid ship offshore the district of Haswein while another one was still missing in the sea,
Secretary-General of the governorate local council, deputy governor Salem Abdullah Neimir said a committee was set up for investigating in the incident. The committee is composed of deputy of the governor as chairman and membership of director general of fish wealth, director of criminal investigation, director of the coast guard and chairman f cooperative fish union. In addition, the minister of fish wealth asked director general ocean sciences centre and director general of monitoring and inspection to take part in investigations.
Information of the governorate mentioned that the research ship Bin Majid belonging to the centre of ocean sciences of the ministry of fish wealth dispersed traditional fishermen and while they were discussing with the ship crew there was opening of fire caused the injury of one fisherman. The ship crew reported of one injured and the killing of another one.
Neimir also indicated that the ministry handed over the ship to a Yemeni investor maintained and repaired it in return of an agreement allowing him to sell fish quantities he fishes for three years without coming to be interfered in the sea.
Secretary General of the governorate local council described the agreement as unjust and demanded the fish wealth ministry to cancel it. He accused the ship crew of violating fishery laws and fishing in places of traditional fishing areas.
