Almotamar.net - A decision was issued Wednesday on establishing a committee for following up and assessment of negative social phenomena affecting social peace and the national unity.

The decision of setting up the committee came out of the national constants represented by principles and goals of the Yemeni revolution, the republican regime, the national unity, democracy, keenness on deepening and strengthening social solidity and fraternity among members of the society, discard of all inherited social phenomena with the aim of achieving social peace and security and enhancing the bonds of national unity.

The decision stipulated that the committee is connected directly with the president and formation of the committee under chairmanship of Salem Saleh Mohammed and membership of a number of personalities as well as membership of secretaries general of governorates local councils.

The president's decree defined tasks and specializations of the committee with studying and assessment of security violations that harm the social peace basically represented by vengeance and armed phenomena, highway robbery, kidnapping and extremism and others of negative practices and behaviour threatening safety and security of the society and also to suggest solutions for them. The committee is entrusted with studying and assessing negative behaviour and conduct affecting the social adherence and national unity such as fanaticism towards the tribe, the region and sectarianism and to present suitable proposals and visions for treating them. The committee is also charged with studying and assessing what remained of negative impact of the war of the summer of 1994 and proposes suitable solutions.

The decision also commissioned the committee to study phenomena of economic and administrative shortcomings especially those closely connected with citizens concerns and standard of their living, especially continuous rise in prices of essential commodities and materials and to offer suggestions for limiting that phenomenon leading to improvement of the living standard of the citizens. The committee is also to study causes of delay of development projects all over the governorates and propose solutions for tackling that.

The decision granted the committee the right to seek help from those having experience and efficiency and to form subcommittees to help in the governorates for discussing a certain issue, the committee also has the right to resort to reports and studies related to its tasks and to benefit from work of committees and bodies related to its activity.
The committee should expand the base of participation in the process of treating negative social phenomena through adoption and encouragement to holding symposiums, conferences and seminars related to deepening social awareness about these social phenomena and ways of handling them.
