Almotamar.net - A senior American official has recently revealed his country's serious intention to support Yemen to join the Gulf Grouping, affirming the importance of partnership between Yemen and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East Affairs David Walsh reiterated his country's commitment to support agenda of the national reforms in Yemen and giving prominence to interest of the American administration in the economic, security and political situations in Yemen.
Those remarks came during a session of talks held at the American State Department building in Washington on Thursday. The meeting was chaired for the Yemeni side by the Deputy Premier for the Economic Affairs, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and for the American side by Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East Affairs David Walsh. The talks dealt with the international efforts exerted for combating terror with all its forms.
Mr Walsh affirmed the importance of supporting the Yemeni-American partnership in combating terror, expressing Washington's satisfaction over for stability of security situations in Saada governorate and stop of the military operations and ending the sedition that some areas of the governorate have witnessed.
On his part the Deputy Premier al-Arhabi asserted commitment of the Yemeni government to maintain the agenda of the national reforms. He has also talked about the noticeable improvement in the economic indicators and criteria of the Yemen Republic , pointing out what Yemen has lately faced of problems pertaining mainly to developmental issues. He also asked the international community and the United States of America to help Yemen draw up and implement a development strategy to confront the challenges it is facing.
He has also renewed emphasis that Yemen would not be lenient with terrorism affirming it offends Yemen's reputation and harms the course of development. Al-Arhabi also expressed his welcome for the American support to Yemen in security and military areas and demanded Washington for more technical and financial support t help Yemen fight the phenomenon of terror.
The Yemeni Deputy Premier confirmed on the other hand availability of all constituents for Yemen's accession to the GCC and that the economic variation between the Yemeni economy and the economies of the GCC states needs narrowing of the gap separating them.
