almotamar.net - Head of the Information Office of he General People’s Congress GPC Tareq al-Shamy has on Monday reiterated confirmation that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Yemen in April 2009 are a constitutional right and possession of the people and not just for the political parties.

Al-Shamy also expressed the GPC’s refusal to hostage the destiny of the homeland, elections and democracy to three or four parties in the Yemeni arena. He said the GPC always asserts its keenness on political participation in the elections and has exerted all that it can for making all the political forces to bear their responsibility for taking part in the elections as a constitutional commitment and right.

The Head of the Information Office said if there was a crisis it is among parties of the Joint Meeting Parties JMP. Differences emerged when some voices in circles of these parties began submitting the reason for not delivering names of members of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum SCER was the difference with the Yemen Socialist Party YSP and then voting on the elections law was hindered along with their non-commitment to hand over names of their members to the SCER.

Despite of his confirmation on the existence of contacts with the JMP and that they will not be cut under any circumstances Tareq al-Shamy said the GPC would not accept that the dialogue would be for the hindrance of the democracy march and “we would not accept to be a step for impeding the process of development and a cover for practices violating the constitution and the law as we would not accept that providing the opportunity for those forces to be way for reaching their goal of hindering the process of elections.”

He also expressed his regret for the JMP’s attempt to play with the security card which poses a dangerous turning point for those parties in the first place through driving some innocent persons to fabricate some security testability, confirming it is the right of security and judicial authorities to perform their duties via the law that regulates such operations violating the constitution and the law.

In an interview published by Annas weekly al-Shamy said,” I confirm that up until now what the JMP has practiced is a sound phenomenon and the days will prove that. What is related to the street and making people take to the street , all know that the GPC is the mot capable one of gathering millions of citizens as it possesses the reason and possesses large masses of its members and supporters and because it is keen to respect the constitution and the law.
