Almotamar.net, Saba - "We have recruited 1000 soldiers to enhance security strength of Coast Guard Forces (CGFs)", President Ali Abdullah Saleh said Saturday.
This measure, he said, comes after marine piracy increased during the past months. "We directed providing these forces necessary arms and equipments for increasing their strength."
"We have intention to mix cost guard forces with guards of borders to be affiliated with one body, interior ministry. This body will have central and regional leaderships," he said in a speech he delivered on Saturday during the opening ceremony of Interior Ministry Leaderships' 19th conference.
In the conference, being held under the motto of "Homeland's Security is National and Collective Responsibility" in the Period Jan 24-26, he highlighted efforts of interior ministry on continuous security following up and alert across country's governorates. "These efforts have helped achieving positive and fruitful results in fighting crime and terrorism and realizing security and stability."
He directed the ministry to supervise, plan and follow up performance of security apparatus in general. He argued on honoring those who perform their duties well and punishing those who commit faults.
"Accountability and punishment must cover all country's institutions, in general, not only in security apparatus. Those who commit faults must be held accountable and punished and those who are creative and do their duties well must be awarded," he said.
He highly highlighted the roles of the National Security Apparatus, Political Security Organization and General Security for thwarting plans of the terrorist cell in northern of Arroudha city, north of the capital Sana'a.
"Security performance and performance of Central Security's anti-terror forces was excellent and succeeded in thwarting plans of that cell before carrying them out. This is a basic thing in fighting crime. If there is security alert and good intelligent work, the crime is halted early," he said.
Over Yemeni detainees in Guantaamo Bay, Saleh said we have asked the United States to extradite the detainees to Yemen. "Ex- Bush administration has contacted with us to extradite them to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for re-qualifying them. We refused this American demand and told them we are ready to receive them in our country and equip a center for them to be re-qualified among their families."
He affirmed that directives have been issued to security apparatus to equip complete center includes a school, health facilities and suitable housing for receiving 94 persons and allow their families to live with them. They will be re-qualified nationally to be away of extremism during a period extends from 60 to 90 days.
He stated that there are measures for establishing housing fund for military and security affiliates. The houses, which will be built through the fund, will be for using only and cannot be sold.
On foreign situation the President highly valued resolutions taken at Kuwait summit describing them as positive resolutions that contribute to heal the rift among brethren and all parties.
He has also hailed steadfastness of the Palestinian people and the brave resistance happened in Gaza despite the many victims from children, women and the elderly. He appreciated the role of the Yemeni people with the people of Palestine since the beginning of the war.
The President said hat recently Yemen presented a complete initiative for Palestinian reconciliation and offering concessions by both of Fatah and Hamas and that initiative was delivered to Fatah and Hamas as well as to Turkey, Syria and Egypt including formation of a national unity government and building the security authorities on national and professional bases away from parties and the government should be formed for six months for preparing for coinciding parliamentary and presidential elections. The President added, “We have received positive replies from Fatah and Hamas and with the will of God the reconciliation will be achieved.”
