By: Jamil al-Jadabi - SANA'A- A high-ranking official at the General People's Congress (GPC) told almotamar.net that the GPC's presidential candidate will get the majority of voices, more than those he got in the 1999 presidential elections. Ali Abdullah Saleh shall achieve a great victory in the September elections, he noted.
In a statement to almotamar.net, Yasser al-Awadhi, head of the GPC parliamentary block, said, "The GPC will also win local electoral centers more than those gained during the last local elections held in 2001. It is only a few days and then the elections' results will disclose the reality of what I say."
As for the number of voices the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP)'s presidential candidate will get, al-Awadhi expected the JMP and their candidate, Faisal Bin Shamlan, will be defeated. "I expect that Ahmed al-Majeedi and Yassin Abdu Saeed, independent presidential candidates, will get voices more than those which Bin Shamlan will get," he noted.
Al-Awadhi described Bin Shamlan's relations with the JMP as a "temporary marriage", noting that if Bin Shamlan had found good in any of those parties, he could have joined one of them.
He added that if the JMP had seen good in what Bin Shamlan says, they wouldn't have imposed their platform on him, and could have asked him to prepare the platform himself as he is an expert in economy as they say.
Ali Abdullah Saleh, the GPC's presidential candidate, had on Wednesday launched his election campaign in Sa'adah, where thousands went out to receive him at the city stadium, repeating over three hours, "O Ali, the brave, Sa'adah shall not select other than you". By this they have proven to be GPC affiliates despite all bets of the opposition.
