The total cost of the two agreements is more than $ 65 million.
The two agreements were signed by Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdulkarim Ismael al-Arhabi for the Yemeni side and Director of the WB office in Sana’a Benson Atting.
A government source told Almotamar.net the first agreement is related to the WB offering an additional of $ 40 million for the project of developing rural roads in its second stage through maintaining roads in six provinces and conducting studies on the programme of rural development in all provinces of Yemen.
The source said the additional grant is aimed to funding the expenses accompanying the increasing activities of the project of access roads to the rural areas for the purpose of enhancing the impact of the project which aims to reduce isolation of the poor in the rural areas by improving their ability to reach markets and services.
The source added that the second agreement is related to the project of emergencies concerning he speedy response to impact of the world food crisis and stipulates that the European Union offers an amount of 17.5 million euro , provided that the project to be run by the international development association of the WB.
The source said the project would contribute to alleviate the negative impact of food high prices on the poor segments through providing job opportunities and offering amounts of money to more than 41 thousand poor families.
