almotamar.net - Meeting with leadership of Yemen Women Union (YWU) on Monday, President Ali Abdullah Saleh has affirmed interest of the state in issues of the woman and providing opportunities for her for contributing in the process of building the homeland and its advancement. Leaderships of the YWU have informed the President on activities and programmes of the Union for serving the woman sector.
In the meeting, several issues and topics pertaining to the woman were presented. Among those topics were related to early marriage, marriage age, increase of the woman participation in the political life, programme on training leaderships, programme on the legal and social protection of the woman and support, the project of legal protection of the woman and the child and the topic of the woman illiteracy.
Leadership of the YWU has lauded the attention and care the woman receives from the President who provided before her many opportunities for taking part in the political and public life and in the process of development.
The YWU leaderships also reviewed at the meeting the social, health and psychological problems the child girls are being exposed to as a result of early marriage in addition to what that reflects of results on the society in general.
For his part the President stressed the importance of the role played by the Yemeni woman in serving the homeland and its development process , pointing out the status of he woman in the society as partner to her brother the an .
The President also affirmed that the law of God is above all and that the legislative power should put controls necessary for the safe marriage which would preclude rendering the woman into goods or the children into victim.
He has also emphasized the role undertaken by the mother and the family in bringing up and protection of their children against ideas of extremism and terrorism, praising the role of the YWU in serving the Yemeni woman and her issues.
