AlmotMr.net, Saba - The Cabinet continued its extraordinary meeting on Sunday to discuss the second national report of the Millennium Development Goals 2015 (MDGs) to be submitted to the next meeting of the UN General Assembly.
The report was prepared by Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in cooperation with the UNDP with participation of the relevant government agencies, academicians, and the development partners from the private sector and civil society organizations.
The report dealt with a number of indicators of the Millennium Goals, which seek to eradicate poverty and hunger, achieve primary education for all, promote gender equality ,empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.
The Cabinet noted in light of the discussion of the report to the positive indicators that have been achieved within the framework of efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, stressing the need to fast-track to enhance the positive indicators and to accelerate the implementation of policies and programs of the eight millennium goals in an integrated manner for the next phase.
In this regard, the Cabinet instructed the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation to include the figures and indicators provided by the ministries directly concerned with the millennium goals in the final report.
The Cabinet emphasized the Planning Ministry, in coordination with the concerned ministries and agencies, to prepare an executive plane at the level of each component and goal and include it in the fourth five-year socioeconomic development plan according to the developmental priorities of those goals.
Furthermore, the Cabinet commended the clear methodology adopted in preparing the report, analyzing the current situation of each goal individually and determining the most-enhancing policies to achieve the desired indicators in an integrated manner.
