Almotamar.net, Saba - Prime Minister Ali Mujawar launched on Monday the second conference of the Arab Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network ACINET being attended by 100 delegates from 17 Arab countries and international organizations.

He delivered a speech in which he hoped the conference would produce recommendations that will contribute to boosting anti-corruption efforts in the Arab World.

Corruption has become a big challenge before the governments and communities in the world, though the level of its damages varies from a country to another, he said.

Corruption swallows up the peoples' wealth, weakens the rule of law, disrupts the social justice, wastes human and natural resources, undermines the political process and is a roadblock to investment, the premier said.

Hence, the efforts to fight this pandemic must be promoted to achieve sustainable development, he said.

Owing to the necessity for cooperation on fighting corruption, countries have rushed to take measures to eradicate it including ratifying the UN Convention against Corruption, he said.

Furthermore, Mujawar underlined the efforts of the Yemeni government in combating corruption including the establishment of the Supreme National Anti-Corruption Commission in 2007.

The governmental program presented to Parliament in 2007 before forming the body focused on institutional building and promoting the role of wise governance and fighting corruption, he made clear.

Transparency and fighting corruption were given priority within the executive package of national reforms, he said, adding that the government showed commitment to implementing political, economic and social reforms based on using the national resources for sustainable development and the effective implementation of the national strategy for combating
