Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General of the General People’s Congress (GPC) Yahya Ali al-Raie has affirmed Wednesday that the upcoming parliamentary elections would be held on time at the constitutional date next April.
Al-Raie said, in an address at the festival organized by the GPC and parties of the National Alliance in Thamar province on Wednesday in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections, there is no longer any constitutional or legal extension after the parliament had voted for the extension two years ago constitutionally and legally.
Al-Raie praised what he felt of interest and participation by the sons of the province of Thamar and other provinces in practicing their tight to parliamentary elections in emphasis of the keenness of all on implementing the constitution and the real democratic practice.
Addressing the meting al-Raie continued to say,” You have to select your representatives in the next parliament with freedom and democracy,” pointing out to the dialogue of the parties in the past period and the proposed constitutional amendments, adding “the amendments were discussed beginning of 7 July 2007 with participation of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) and all those concerned and specialists. “
“The were referred to the Shoura Council which includes ranking politicians from the JMP and they took part in discussing them chapter by chapter and article by article then they denied them after their discussion of them. At the end they came to make the President of the republic as their rival in these amendments. “
According to Saba news agency al-Raie has affirmed that the parliament has approved the elections law and was voted on and it is the law which was discussed by parties of the JMP that now they allege they have not discussed.
On formation of the supreme commission for elections from judges, al-Raie said it was a proposal by opposition parties of the JMP.
Al-Raie concluded to say,” The homeland is proud of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and what has been achieved of huge envelopment achievements in various areas.”
