Almotamar.net - Chairman of the Higher Judiciary Council HJC), the Head of the Supreme Court in Yemen Judge Issam Abdulwahab Al-Samawi said Sunday he prefers a closed down court before litigates than to be headed by a judge tampering with people's rights, honour and property.

Al-Samawi said the HJC which is the highest judiciary body in the country is ready to hold accountable and punish judges in case it is proved they have committed grave professional acts, adding "We cannot neglect ho0lding accountable any corrupt judge and there is evidence on that."

Judge al-Samawi refuted on the other hand allegations on Yemenis refraining from resorting to judiciary swaying, " The people do not know much about the judiciary and those who say so are mistaken, " citing the number of cases considered by the Yemeni courts in 2005 that amounted to around 130 thousand cases.

Al-Samawi deemed mistaken those who talk on people resorting to tribal or personal arbitration as alternative to court. He said the HJC gives special importance to commercial judiciary. He said the first top ten graduates from the Higher Judiciary Institute of batch 12 have been appointed in commercial courts. He said now there are at least five judges inn each court while in the past there was on or two. He added that when people are feeling confident in settling their disputes at the court they will resort to judiciary to solve their cases. That, he said, has doubled the number of cases considered by commercial courts in the capital from 600 to 1800 cases.

On the role of judiciary in following up conditions of prison inmates Judge al-Samawi affirmed that general prosecution apparatuses practice permanent monitoring on prisons and there are inspection rounds implemented by general prosecution authorities inside prisons.
