Almotamar.net - An establishment of council of Transparency Council was announced Sunday in Sana'a. The Council is concerned with asking the government and oil companies and other relevant sides to provide statements related to extractive industries and the choice of specialised international establishments to verify those statements and approve the reports related to extractive industries and publish them.

Human Rights Information and Training Centre (Hritc) has won membership of the Yemeni Transparency Council in the elections held Sunday at the ministry of oil and minerals for the establishment of the Council. The event was attended by a large number of civil society organisations in Yemen.

The council which is composed of members of the private sector, government institutions and civil society organisations is expected to be responsible for following up and approving implementation of transparency criteria endorsed by the World Transparency Council with regard to extractive industries.

A press release, received by almotamar.net, mentioned that in addition to Hritc the organisations of Future Trend and Yemeni Parliamentarians also won membership of the council so that the Yemeni civil society is represented by three organisations in this council.

Yemen had last March announced its official acceptance to join the Transparency Initiative extractive industries.
