Almotamar.net - Planning undersecretary for studies and economic prospects sector Mohammed al-Haweri said there is unexploited taxation energy because of taxation evasion and presentation of financial statements not reflecting the actual volume of the companies' activities and taxpayers in general.
Al-Haweri added that studies revealed that unused taxation energy reaches 54% of the gross domestic product, holding taxation establishments responsible for raising the efficiency of collection and development of levying mechanisms.
In a statement to al-Thawra newspaper on Saturday al-Haweri considered the application of sales tax is one of the alternatives which can make up for the drop in production and revenues of oil which represent 30% of the gross domestic product.
He said the sales tax would bring large revenue for the general budget and development of non-oil revenues especially the taxation and customs revenues.
