Almotamar.net - The Yemeni minister of culture Dr Mohammed Abu Bakr al-Maflahi said Thursday his ministry began preparations for holding an international conference on the intellectual property the beginning of next November.
Al-Maflahi told almotamar.net that more than 35 Arab, Asian and African countries as well as Latin American countries would take part in the conference in addition to a number of Yemeni government institutions.
The minister indicated that the conference would discuss a number of issues related to intellectual property including the folklore and traditional knowledge. He said the choice of Yemen for hosting the conference is because the country is full of the folklore and various heritage sources.
The director of Intellectual Property Protection Administration at the ministry Abdullah Baddah had participated in one of the government committees on intellectual property organised by the World Organisation of Intellectual Property in Geneva last month. At the meeting Baddah proposed effecting an international law for protection of the folklore and traditional knowledge in addition to a number issues pertaining to protection of intellectual property.
