almotamar.net - The Yemen parliament on Monday referred a number of laws amendments to specialised committees, the memorandum on amendments related to the woman mentioned that the amendments come in harmony with the president of the republic's election platform which has been reflected on the government programme approved by the parliament and included enhancement of the woman role in the political life and expansion various opportunities for her in all walks of life.

The memorandum mentioned that among references of the amendments is the political programme of the General People's Congress, the part concerning the woman in the third five-year plan for economic and social development and alleviation of poverty and the national strategy for woman development.

The draft amendments presented by the government Monday comes for elimination of texts discriminating between men and women and their replacement by articles proceeding from the positive differentiation in favour of the woman so that to surmount a traditional situation that has accumulated over years.

In addition, the aim is to protect the woman and effecting legal texts compatible with the international convention of which Yemen is a signatory.

The law related to the woman intended to be amended amounted to ten and are the laws of crimes and punishments, prisons, diplomatic career, police, social securities, securities and salaries, personal status, work, defences and civilian law.
