Almotamar.net - Secretary General of the General People's Congress (GPC) Abdulqader Bajammal on Saturday presided over the first meeting of the GPC's Higher Leadership for Elections entrusted with preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled in Yemen in April next year.
The first meeting of the GPC's Higher Leadership for Elections comes in implementation of a decision taken by the party's General Committee in its latest meeting chaired by President Ali Abdullah Saleh last Monday.
The GPC's elections leadership has asked the Assistant Secretaries General to prepare preliminary all-out plans in preparation for the upcoming elections and distributed supervising and organisational as well as the electoral leaderships at the level of all governorates of Yemen.
The meeting also discussed various issues related to early preparation for parliamentary elections and approved entrusting the GPC governorates branches' constituencies to prepare preliminary visions for a mechanism of selection of candidates for the elections of 2009, confirming the preparation of election guide of the GPC at a time not exceeding two weeks from today's meeting.
The meeting approved that the plans and visions should be presented to the next meeting of the election leadership in prelude to be approved and to begin implementing plans of governorates' election leaderships field visits that would undertake supervising the formation of election committees in governorates districts and constituencies all over Yemen.
Secretary General Bajammal stressed in the meeting the importance of carrying out the tasks approved by the election leadership in the fixed dates and speeding up preparation of plans pertaining the elections according to decisions of the General Committee and directives of the President of the GPC in this regard.
