Almotamar.net - The archaeological team from the German Heidelberg University announced Saturday of important archaeological discoveries at a large site in the city of Dhafar that was the capital of the Himyarate state until 540 BC but it believes that the history of these discoveries date to the time of the Christ.

Almotamar.net was the first website to publish the news of this discovery in the city of Dhafar in the mid of this month.

Aprs release issued by the information office at the German embassy in Yemen mentioned that the discovery the German archaeological team discovered on 20 March 2008 is represented by an intact wall embroidered with engravings of 2.5 metres appearing on it engravings of lions, Abu al-Hol, deer figures and other animals and another engraving representing relief nig bulls heads.

The German archaeologists said the have discovered in the site an engraving representing a person 1.06 metre high with a crown on its head probably belonging to a young king or a priest of high position.

The team said the figures of such noble persons were not discovered in Yemen before and this type is similar to body engravings from the south-west of Iran during the centuries accompanying the appearance of Christ.

It added that the temple in Dhafar was built during the Christ era and was in different shapes for three hundred years and some experts indicate to the period of the Himyarates decline era.

The announcement of the German team discovery in Dhafar comes a few days after the announcement of the German archaeological institute DIA working g in Yemen of a discovery of a Sabaean temple in the city of Sarwah in the governorate of Mareb.
