Almotamar.net - Former President of Sana'a University Dr Naser al-Awlaqi on Tuesday called on the parliament, Shoura council and civil organisations for quick action to encounter the problem of water exhaustion seriously as the city of Sana'a is threatened completely by drought, stressing the importance of creating modern irrigation methods that would help find a kind of balance.
Al-Awlaqi considered the problem of water depletion in Sana'a basin in a random form is an apparent problem and does not need to a philosophy, confirming the inevitability of the problem represented by exhaustion of waters and danger of drought that is threatening Sana'a as a result of the continuous exhaustion that is happening for 60 years.
In the second symposium held on Monday evening doe the discussion of the issue of the danger of depletion threatening Sana'a basin Dr al-Awlaqi ruled out the dependence on water desalination which some say it could be alternative or a solution for supplying Sana'a basin with water in case waters depleted, proving that by mentioning that Yemen is a poor country with limited resources and that technology of this mechanism is huge.
The member of the shoura council Dr Ahmed al-Asbahi requested all media instruments on the necessity of adopting campaigns of awakening, specialised for problems of waters that Sana'a can face. He affirmed the importance of activating legislations concerning random digging of wells, describing that as conspiracy against the coming generations and calling at the same time to raising a slogan of no voice should be higher than the voice of the battle of waters.
In the symposium of Al-Ahmar Forum managed by deputy speaker of the parliament Sheikh Himyar al-Ahmar he a number of participants talked on the subject, among them Dr Nasser Fadhle who presented a summary on the project of Sana'a basin regarding the idea of building and the goals including prolongation of the age of the underground water reservoir of Sana'a basin. He explained that the p project of Sana'a basin includes 3200 square kilometers and divided into 22 basins.
