Almotamar Net - The newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator - UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Pratibha Mehta has assumed her duties in Yemen on Monday for supporting a road of realizing goals of the millennium in development and promotion for human rights in Yemen.  Almotamar.net, Saba - The newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator - UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Pratibha Mehta has assumed her duties in Yemen on Monday for supporting a road of realizing goals of the millennium in development and promotion for human rights in Yemen.

A press release of UNDP mentioned that Ms. Mehta, an Indian national who comes with extensive experience in leading development programmes and policies, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Yemen, she will coordinate all UN agencies in support of the UN reforms and delivering as "One UN", for greater harmonization to reduce poverty, hunger, gender inequality, to support the country towards achieving MDGs and to promote human rights.

As a UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Mehta will lead the office in the process of implementing the Country Programme Action Plan (2007-2011).

Prior to joining in Yemen, she served as the UN Resident Coordinator/ UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia, for four years, and, before that, as UNDP Resident Representative in Philippines.

Also, she served as a Senior Policy Advisor/ Democratic Governance Group / Bureau for Development Policy in UNDP Headquarters (HQ) in New York. She has also worked extensively in Canada and India in various capacities.

She has a PHD in Psychology and holds a Mid Professional Certificate in Gender Analysis and Urban Development as well as a Master's Degree was in Child Development.

Finally, Ms. Pratibha Mehta was assigned to replace the former UNDP RR/ UN RC Ms. Flavia Pansieri, who had been assigned to serve as an Executive Coordinator of the United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV) in Bonn/ Germany.
