Almotamar.net - An agreement for funding four new projects in Yemen was signed in Sana'a Monday by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Planning and International cooperation and some relevant parties. The four projects which are in different developmental fields are within the work of the UNDP.
The first project is a joint assistance for electoral work presented by the European Commission and the UNDP for the years 2008-2010. The assistance is allocated to technical help for developing capacities of electoral establishments in Yemen including the supreme commission for elections and referendum. The project's document was sighed by deputy premier for economic affairs, the minister for planning and international cooperation Abdulkarim al-Arhabi, secretary general of elections supreme commission and acting resident UNDP representative.
The second project contributes to achieve finding methods for sustainable and regular development of Socotra archipelago to endure protection of its biodiversity. The third project aims to encourage the economic growth in favour of the poor in the country so that to endeavour to create a strong alliance through a developmental operation more capable of supporting the infrastructure of the sector of smaller lending in Yemen.
As for the fourth project it aims to support capabilities of the media and civil society organisations in promotion for administrative transparency. The project offers technical assistance to technicians of both parties to help them raise the ceiling of criteria locally in order to exchange objective information related to transparency and accountability.
