These organisations work directly with women and specialised in woman issues that occupy 50% of their activity.

Almotamar.net - Social Affairs and Labour Undersecretary Ali Saleh Abdullah said Monday the number of woman organisations in Yemen amounted to 600 according to the latest statistic registered in the mid of the year 2008. These organisations work directly with women and specialised in woman issues that occupy 50% of their activity.

Undersecretary Abdullah added, in a party of inauguration programme of human rights of the rural woman, organised by Mada Foundation in cooperation with the French Fund for Social development and the French embassy in Sana'a, that 170 woman organisations work in Yemen in the field of woman work and the rest gives part of their activity to woman affairs.

He pointed out that Yemen has signed a big number of agreements in the field of general freedoms, rights of work and woman's rights. He also pointed out there people's and official effort for bringing amendments in some laws pertaining to the woman. He said the government stance regarding non-governmental organisations is a supportive one and considers them a basic partner despite the existence of weakness in some matters at some organisations.

On her part the executive manager of Mada organisation Sultana al-Jiham reviewed the essential components of the project of the programme of human rights of the rural woman and her empowerment economically.
