almotamar.net - A session of talks between the delegation of the General People’s Congress (GPC) headed by Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani and the National Leadership of the Arab Ba’th Socialist Party of Syria chaired by Assistant Secretary General Abdullah al-Ahmar was held at the headquarters of the Ba’th National Leadership Saturday morning.

The meeting reviewed organizational issues and development of relations between the GPC and the Ba’th parties as well as Arab, Islamic and international issues and importance of unifying the Arab rank as well as coordination of stands regarding all national issues particularly the Palestinian issue, the Arab Israeli conflict and occupation of Iraq.

Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani confirmed in the meeting Yemen’s government and people with their Syrian brothers and their support for the efforts Syria exerts for restoration of the occupied Arab territories in the Golan Heights , indicating the stands in support for Syria of which President Ali Abdullah Saleh announced repeatedly during his meetings with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Al-Barakani praised wisdom of the Syrian leadership and steadfastness of the Arab people of Syria in foiling the foreign schemes that try to target Syria that were thinking that they placed Syria between pincers. He renewed the Yemen’s condemnation of the criminal acts adopted by extremist elements that offend Islam and deforms it, expressing his hope that Syria would not come under any terrorist operations. He has also recalled the Syrian role in defending the revolution and the republican regime in Yemen and participating in the process of education in Yemen as well as Syria’s stand by the constitutional legitimacy in the preservation of the unity and defending it in the war of 1994. Al-Barakani also affirmed that the Yemeni Syrian relations are not governed by agreements or protocols but rather open in all areas and at all levels , stressing the necessity of developing political and organizational relations between the two parties and at different levels.

On his part the Assistant Secretary General of the Arab Ba’th Socialist Party of Syria Abdullah al-Ahmar reviewed the Yemeni Syrian relations and stages of their development and their distinguished characteristics.

Al-Ahmar also talked about the Arab reality and stages of the Arab Israeli conflict and the importance of aborting the plots aimed at consolidation of division among the Arab countries and the necessity of keenness on restoring the Palestinian unity in the framework of sticking to rights of the Palestinian people and return of their territories, indicating to the danger of the Palestinian rift.

The two sides also confirmed their support for the Palestinian national dialogue in the manner restoring the national unity of the people of Palestine as it is considered the base for enhancing their steadfastness and restoration of their occupied land and their full rights especially the establishment of the Palestinian independent state and its capital Al-Quds and return of the refugees to their home.

They have also affirmed their support for unity of Iraq , land and people and their support for the comprehensive political process of all spectra of the Iraqi people and their components in order to end the occupation the people self-determination , they also expressed their appreciation of the steps accomplished in Lebanon in dependence of the Doha agreement.

Following the talks they signed an agreement of cooperation between the GPC and the Arab Ba’th Socialist Party which is the third agreement since 1989 and it included development of cooperation between the two parties and exchange of expertise and visits.

The session of talks was attended for the GPC by Abdullah Ahmed Ghanim, head of the political office, Ahmed al-Zuhairi, head of the organization office, Aref al-Zoga, head of the office of youth and students and Tareq al-Shamy, head of the information office. It was also attended by Saghir Hamoud Aziz, member of the parliamentary body, Naji al-Qawsy, member of the youth office and Adel Mohammed Qayed, deputy head of the economic office.

For the Syrian Ba’th Party the talks were attended by Sami Attary, member of the National leadership, the head of the organization office, advisor at the General Secretariat office and director of the offices of external relations and information.
