Almotamar.net - Assistant Secretary General at the General People's Congress Party (GPC) Dr Ahmed Ubaid Bin Daghr said the efforts for providing shelter and relief by the government and local councils for victims of the torrents disaster in Hadramout and Mahara governorates, succeeded in containing the disaster in its first stage. He pointed out the President of the Republic's field visit to the area of he disaster at the same day of its happening represented an auxiliary factor in activating government efforts and to exert great efforts that contributed to alleviate the size of human losses. He at the same time criticised attempts of playing down the government efforts in this regard and accused the opposition ' JMP' of attempting to take advantage of the disaster for political wrangle.

Dr Bin Daghr also revealed the government intention of announcing a new strategy for the reconstruction of the affected areas by torrents in Hadramout and Mahara.

In an interview to Al-Jazeera Satellite Channel broadcast Saturday evening, Dr Bin Daghr mentioned about the size of losses resulting from torrents in both governorates of Hadramout and Mahara, indicating the death of and missing of around 12o persons and the destruction of more than 4453 houses, 312 business shops and destruction of 33 transport vehicles in addition to the destruction of 350 school buildings, destruction of many health establishments an about 200 thousand housing buildings , added to that the sweeping by torrents of 10 thousand hectares of land and burial of 2109 artesian wells and other damage to fish sector.

On whether the difference with the opposition Joint Meeting Parties about elections has affected efforts of providing shelter and relief to the affected people by the disaster Dr Bin Daghr expressed his regret that the opposition takes advantage of people's problems in political wrangle, indicating that parties of the JMP try to find a foothold in the crisis but very regretfully it comes from the wrong foothold.

The GPC Assistant Secretary General refused to talk on the existence of a crisis in Yemen before the elections, clarifying that the crisis is with those demanding for postponing the elections, in an indication to the JMP, confirming the GPC's going ahead to the elections. He said the presence of some problems would never hinder them from the national right and the upcoming elections are the right of the citizens and no one has the right to exceed them; the GPC or the opposition. He said the opposition should head towards the democratic process of which he described elections as its core, calling on the JMP to practice their right to democracy.

On results of the previous dialogues the leading member in the GP reminded of the JMP backing down from agreement of principles of 2006 that stipulated the addition of two members from the JMP to the Supreme Commission for Elections and the formation of the Commission from judges.

Bin Daghr also called on the Yemen Socialist Party (YSP) to abandon extremist thinking, reviewing some practices violating the law and the constitution such as attacking public and private properties and raising secessionist slogans.

Bin Daghr also talked about new directions for developing the political system and expanding the local rule the GPC government intends to execute, embodied by a political national vision transferring the state from centralization to decentralization.
