And in an indication to hesitation of the Joint Meeting Parties JMP regarding this expected constitutional right the US Department of State expressed its concern over non-cooperation of Yemeni opposition parties and it�s looking forward to a season of electoral campaigns full of enthusiasm, under direct supervision of the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum SCER and in an organised form and transparent method.
A statement issued by the office of the spokesman for the US State Department Robert Wood called on all political parties in Yemen to immediately return to the dialogue table so that to reach an agreement in opinions with regard to procedures on progress of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the manner in harmony with recommendations and suggestions presented by international observers in elections of 2oo6.
The statement pointed out that all Yemeni political parties share responsibility of participation in the democratic process as well as in reaching an agreement in opinions for preserving legitimacy of the polling operation that would clarify the extent of Yemen�s commitment to the democratic option.
The statement, that almotamar.net obtained a copy of it, emphasized preservation of the course of the election process through just and transparent preparation and supply for it away from practicing acts of violence and exchange of accusations on the elections bad management. It is an opportunity for the Yemeni people to go ahead towards establishment and consolidation of the democratic process and its institutions.
The statement also expressed concern of the United States of America regarding non-cooperation of the opposition parties and regarding disagreement in opinions. The statement deems that a threat to opportunities of the elections success and contributes to giving perception that the ruling party and the opposition parties would not offer concessions necessary to guarantee the right to the Yemeni citizen for expressing his political will through free and honest elections.
