By: almotamar.net - Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation organized Sunday August 20 a workshop on the preparation of a policy paper for foreign development aids. The workshop involved a number of officials and experts from the Ministry of Planning and other concerned government agencies.
At the opening session, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Kareem Al-Arhabi delivered a speech, stressing that sound management is central to the allocation of development aids to meet the needs of comprehensive development.
�There is a tendency on the part of the government to activate the policy of directing foreign aids towards the achievement of the objectives expected of the development processes in various fields,� Al-Arhabi stated.
On the other hand, Nabil Ali Shaiban, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry, reviewed the objectives and results anticipated from this workshop. He also gave a snapshot of the current situation of foreign aids, pointing out the government�s efforts to activate the optimal utilization of foreign aids in such a way as to comply with approved development plans.
On the other hand, Stephen Johns, an expert from the Oxford Institute for Economic Policy, offered a detailed account of reference studies on which the aid policy paper is going to be based.
Najla� Al-Saqqaf, a representative from the Ministry�s Foreign Aids Coordination Unit, reviewed the results of the government�s survey on cooperation ties with donors.
The participants discussed the issues related to the drafting of the foreign aid policy paper and the mechanisms to enhance Yemen�s relationship with donors as well as the fields that should have aid priority in such a manner as to serve the five-year development plan and national reforms agendas.
