Almotamar.net - SANAA- �Homeland Alliance� organization demanded support for women candidates for local councils elections. The call of the organization was addressed to all political forces, legal and developmental civil society organizations, the private sector and voters, asking them to offer support the woman candidates to the local councils.
A statement issued by the organization�s secretariat Saturday, a copy of which received by almotamar.net, appealed for all those organizations to participate with it for standing behind supporting the success of the biggest number of the 186 female candidates for the membership of the governorates and districts of Yemen, regardless of their political affiliations and parties.
The organization affirmed in its statement the importance of the authority commitment to the president of the republic directives on withdrawal of party-member candidates from election stations and constituencies where women have nominated so that to provide opportunity for them and to stop the practice of pressure and all sorts of social and institutional violence against them to force them withdraw through means of temptation and terrorization.
Homeland Alliance has also asked all people concerned with the electoral process to work for documenting violations committed against woman candidates and refer them to legal organizations and to disclose them in the media. It also asked the political parties to provide their woman candidates with all means of material and moral support to ensure their success and winning in the local councils in parallel to the support offered to their mal candidates. The organization asked the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum to provide moral and material support for independent candidates.
The organization concluded its statement by calling on al voters to grant women their confidence ad to vote for them. The organization�s statement also expressed its hope that the majority, if not all, �would be with us to support woman candidates for the local councils by voting for them on the polling day on the 20th of next September. Women are also confident that the religious establishment would offer them ample support, particularly by religious scholars, mosque preachers and religious candidates. The spelled out that the goal is their effective participation in the advancement of Yemen and the realization of its dignity along with their men brethren.
Women have staged protest marches in the capital Sana�a after political parties disavowed heir support for the female candidates for local councils elections. They requested the president of the republic to exert pressure on all parties, including those of the JMP that refused the support and woman nomination for the local councils under influence of certain legal opinions banning that. That move aroused much resentment against the Yemen Grouping for Reform Party (Islah), demanding its leaders to renounce those opinions that devastated all struggling efforts of the woman for gaining her rights.
