Almotamar.net, Saba - At least eight people were killed and 18 others, including an officer and policemen, were injured as armed saboteurs violating the law from followers of Tareq al-Fadli fired anti-armour rockets and intense fire in the city of Zunjibar on Thursday, governor of Abyan said on Thursday.

Ahmed al-Maisary, governor of Abyan, was quoted by www.26sep.net as saying that the attackers fired RPGs, other rockets and bullets in the city of Zunjibar, when they wanted to release by force some detainees at the Central Security.

They were followers of Tariq al-Fadhli, a Jihadist leader who joined the movement late last year, said al-Maisary.

Supporters of the movement started early Thursday gathering at al-Fadhli's house, which is located opposite to the governmental complex in the city after the authorities gave them permission to hold a festival, he said.

At the end of the event and carrying microphones they moved to the Central Security Compound aiming to release some detainees by force, he said.

The security forces dealt with the violation, taking necessary measures and the attackers then started firing missiles on the compound.

Other subversives, who were sheltered at al-Fadli's house, also fired rockets and bullets at random killing and injuring citizens. They also burnt a police vehicle.

Gunfire exchange with the security forces caused damage to the compound and nearby houses.
