Almotamar.net, Saba - About 6200 pieces of weapon have been seized during the first half of July in all governorates of the country, a source at interior ministry said on Wednesday.
The source said that security bodies are continuing efforts to ban carrying fire weapons at the areas of security lines around the cities and checkpoints at the entrances of the main cities of the country.
"The security authorities of the ministry work hard to ban the carrying of weapons or to move it or even show them inside and outside the cities to insure the security and stability in the country", added the source.
Meanwhile, during the first half of 2009, about 100,000 weapons were seized by the security authorities in the cities of Yemen.
In 2007, Yemeni government has launched a security campaign of banning carrying fire weapons in the main cities where the tribes own tremendous amounts of weapons.
Well-informal sources estimate that Yemeni citizens have some 60 million pieces of weapon at an average of three pieces for each person of various ages.
