Almotamar Net - SANAA- An official in the Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) announced that around 9 million and 230 thousand electors, among them 4 million women, will be eligible to the right to cast their votes on the 20 of September to elect a president of the republic from among five candidates, among them president Ali Abdullah Saleh, the candidate for the General People’s Congress and the election of members of local councils in districts and governorates’ councils. The GPC information center quoted Dr Mohammed al-Siyyni, head of planning sector, the member of the SCER as saying that the period for the process of nomination for and withdrawal from elections of local councils expired two days before. The process of filling in forms of candidates and receiving forms of those who withdrew from local elections has now begun. He pointed out that 3450 candidates from both sexes withdrew their nomination for the districts and 120 nominees withdrew from elections of governorates councils.
Al-Siyyani has clarified that 22100 candidates nominated for the districts local councils elections and 2310 nominated for governorates local councils elections. 157 woman candidates nominated for the districts local councils and 40 women for the governorates local councils. Among the women candidates for the districts 31 are from the GPC and three for the governorates. Ten woman candidates from the Yemen Socialist Party nominated for the districts and three for the governorates while the number of independent candidates for the districts amounted to 98 and 30 for the governorates. He said there is no woman candidate representing the Yemeni Congregation for Reform Party (Islah) and the remaining number is distributed among the rest of other parties.
The GPC came in the first place with regard to the number of candidates, 6440 for the districts and 403 for governorates� local councils. The Islah in the second place, then the YSP and the Nasserite. The number of independent candidates amounted to ten thousand for the districts and 1054 for the governorates, while the remaining number is for representatives of other parties. .
