Almotamar.net - Press Court in Sana'a has sentenced journalist Muneer al-Maweri, living in the United States of America, to two years in jail and preventing him from writing for the same period. The sentence issued on Saturday also stipulated the imprisonment of the editor in Chief of Al-Masdar weekly newspaper Sameer Jubran for one year and preventing him from his post as Editor in Chief for the same period.

The sentence came on backdrop of Al-Masdar newspaper publication of an article, some months ago, written by journalist al-Maweri included, according to the lawsuit, groundless offenses against the President of the Republic.

Legal Affairs Undersecretary Mamoun al-Shami described the ruling as just, adding in a statement to almotamar.net that the President of the Republic has given a higher example to follow suit by all officials of the state by resorting to the judiciary.

The Ministry of Legal Affairs is considered the party authorized to present a case in court and defend on behalf of any other party.
