Almotamar.net, Saba - Yemen and the United States have held talks in Washington DC on common interests of both states. The meeting was co-chaired by U.S. National Security Adviser James Jones and Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi.

The two officials disused the growing bilateral relations and several issues topped by the fighting against piracy and terrorism.

The U.S .official expressed his country's appreciation for the anti-al-Qaeda operations launched by Yemeni army forces against terrorist elements, confirming that the U.S. will continue its strong support for Yemen's security and stability.

For his part, al-Qirbi pointed out that Yemen has been suffering from the terrorism, "but it will continue efforts with the international community in the fighting against extremism", said al-Qirbi.

Meanwhile, al-Qirbi has discussed with Leon E. Panetta, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency the security cooperation aspects between the two friendly countries.

The U.S. official praised the level of military relations between Yemen and the U.S., emphasizing that his country is keen on developing bilateral cooperation relations with Yemen.

Al-Qirbi was in Canada last Monday seeking support from the government of Canada as Yemen struggles with al-Qaeda.

He is now making the rounds ahead of a major conference on Yemen in London next week, when Yemen is expected to ask for development aid.
