Almotamar.net, Saba - Defense National Council (DNC) has approved a number of measures to rationalize public expenditure through limiting importing luxurious goods from abroad or home- made ones to protecting national economy against further deterioration.

Chaired by President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Wednesday, the DNC also approved forming new military units to help increase security and defense capabilities. This includes establishing two units for border guards and for coast guards.

The council also approved additional evening shift from 7:00 pm to 10: 00 pm to leaders of defense ministry and unit mangers and their deputies in military zones. This measure also includes leaderships of interior ministry, deputies, assistant deputies, heads of authorities, general directors, and security unit managers across the country.

The meeting which gathered a number of ministers, officials and military leaders discussed report presented by Prime Minister Ali Mujawar on economic and financials situations the country witnesses.

The discussion handled increase exchange rates of foreign currencies and solutions taken by the government to solve them, besides effects of the global financial crisis on the national economy.

The council focused on reforms, rationalizing consumption, activating income taxes and following up issuing financial and economic laws as necessary solutions to the problems facing the economy.

The council directed the government to use loans and assistances and work with the donor transparently in this regard to avoid any failure to help attracting loans or assistances and employing them as desired.

The meeting directed activating security and intelligence's roles in fields of combating terror, smuggling, drugs, organized crime, securing ground and marine outlets and cooperation with concerned bodies in arresting smugglers to bring them into justice.

It also directed banning trafficking with arms, ammunitions and explosives as well as closing any market dealing with arms and argued that the state should buy weapons it needs without interference of brokers. It also directed to seize any arm quantity of weapons coming to the country and bring their dealers to justice.
