Almotamar.net - Yemeni parliamentary delegation headed by Sultan al-Barakani continues its participation in meetings of the 122nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference currently held in the Thai capital Bangkok.
The Yemeni delegation attended meetings of the Human Rights and Democracy committee set up by the conference where the Yemeni delegation supported proposal made by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) parliamentary delegation regarding the main subject proposed for discussion in the next meeting of the committee intended to be held in Geneva next October, on achieving international cooperation in application of international treaties and commitments and rules of humanitarian international law.
Al-Barakani affirmed the necessity of giving consideration to the humanitarian international law and significance of achieving principles of this law in dealing with humanitarian and natural catastrophes and guarantee of human rights.
Al-Barakani drew the attention to importance of the parliamentarian role with its legislative and monitoring tools in noticing governmental policies and measures in dealing with the situations resulting from natural and humanitarian catastrophes.
Al-Barakani stressed the question of enhancing role of the IPU in backing international organisations and social active forces for facing violations of human rights and the natural dangers and humanitarian disasters.
In attending meetings of the committee of the group of participation between the man and the woman , al-Barakani made it clear that the Yemeni woman is advancing in obtaining her political, economic, social and cultural rights in the Yemeni society more than any past time , and she is currently under the Yemeni unity and the democratic and political pursuit under leadership of President Ali Abdullah Saleh , shares the man in all walks of life and building the modern Yemeni society and she occupies high positions in state institutions and civil society organisations ,m including political parties and organisations.
He pointed out that the process of current reforms in the society includes issues of he woman and enhancement of her status and comprehensive participation and her role to be a real partner in enhancing and building foundations of the good governance and application of its principles and goals.
