Almotamar.net, Saba - An American judge in the District of Columbia has ordered to release a Yemeni detainee who is detained at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay for more than nine years.

The release decision was for lack of evidence to justify his continued detention as guilty of having a connection to al-Qaeda.

According to the decision of the District Judge Henry H. Kennedy, the federal court couldn't confirm that the arrest of the Yemeni citizen Adnan Farhan Abdul-Latif is lawful.

The 34-year old detainee was charged of having connection with a man who is working to attract and recruit members to the al-Qaeda.

Abdul-Latif was arrested by the Pakistani authorities in 2001 during his presence there for a treatment visit and then turned him over to Guantanamo Bay in January 2002.

The judge has ordered to free him for he presented clear evidence from specialist doctors on the aim of his visit to Pakistan.

In 2004, the Pentagon stated that it has not been approved that the Yemeni detainee has participated in any military training in Pakistan.
