Almotamar.net - Yemen Vice President Abid Rabeh Mansour Hadi on Tuesday held a meeting with deputy head of institutional development at the World Bank (WB) in charge of the sector of the Middle East and North Africa Josephine Milana. She is also deputy director of the WB Office in Yemen.

During the meeting they reviewed aspects of cooperation and assistance the WB presents to Yemen in the agricultural sector relating to supporting the efforts for limiting spread of the qat tree. The tree represents health dangers as a result of using different harmful chemical fertilizers whose impact doubles dangers on the children and women. They also stressed the importance health and social enlightenment to curb those harms.

The meeting also touched on the importance of encouraging farmers to grow profit yielding crops as alternative to qat and programming the aid offered along with presenting technical consultancy and help especially that planting fruits is yielding reasonable economic returns.

The Vice President affirmed the importance assistance of the WB to those programmes and to adopt the possible solutions that help providing alternatives, praising what the WB offers of assistance at different levels.

For her part the Chairman of Yemeni Women Union Ramzia al-Eryany reviewed areas of assistance and cooperation offered by the WB to programmes for developing the woman in productive practical life, appreciating that assistance that would have the positive constructive impact.
