Almotamar.net - The Vice-President Abid Rabu Mansour Hadi, the 1st Deputy Chairman of the General People’s Congress (GPC) and Secretary General of the GPC Abid Rabu Mansour Hadi has affirmed that next April Yemen would witness a big democratic event represented by the parliamentary elections.
In his speech today at the meeting of leaderships of the GPC and parties of the National Democratic Alliance Parties (NDAP) in Rayma province said that the elections were postponed constitutionally pursuant to a request by parties of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) that themselves presented the formula of February agreement in 2009 and then they turned against it through the National Salvation Document.
Hadi said the February agreement was an outlet of face-saving for the parties of the JMP and a means for looking for convenient forms to develop the political, democratic and electoral system but the spirit of conspiracy returned once again controlling mentalities of the JMP leaders. They started looking for toppling the political system and reaching a constitutional vacuum and then to take power not via elections which express the people’s will.
He said “We are still committed to a national dialogue leading to results for the creative application of February agreement.”
The Vice President added,” To express truthfulness of our intention towards the dialogue and the desire to reach common denominations we had offered more concessions in which we viewed a national interest we call for and at each stage of the dialogue when the matters reached a deadlock the President of the republic used to offer new proposals having other amount of political elasticity and concession.”
Hadi said that the latest suggestions to the JMP were the formation of the supreme commission for elections and they accepted that but backed down and he formation of a national unity government supervising the parliamentary elections , formation of a sub-committee composed of the parties represented at the parliament to agree on the constitutional amendments presented by the two sides and the commitment to the partnership in the national unity government after the elections regardless of results of the elections . The JMP refused all those proposals.
Now the supreme commission for elections has been re-formed from judges, which is a proposal by the opposition included in the agreement of principles in 2006 and after the issuance of a decision of its formation, “we call on leaders of the JMP to give priority to the voice of reason and interest of the homeland to all other interests just for once to offer concession for the interest of the homeland, as the GPC and its allied have given them concessions for several times.”
He pointed out that 27 April is the day of democracy and the most idealist expression of the people participation in managing the public affair and active contribution to building modern Yemen, and development and response to requirements of the age.
He indicated that Yemen achieved big successes in the past three decades and what has been achieved in that period are real landmarks on the road of the national economic, social and cultural renascence of a contemporary united Yemen by virtue of sincerity of its sons, its wise leadership and its directions to the national ends for building a democratic and united society,
