Almotamar.net - Speaker of the Yemeni parliament Yahya al-Raie and the head of the General People’s Congress (GPC)’s parliamentary majority Sultan al-Barakani have clarified Wednesday on the GPC’s bloc presentation on Saturday of a proposal for constitutional amendments.

According leaked information, the amendments aim at political reforms among them the legislative system and he local rule.

According the article 158 of the Yemeni constitution the President of the republic and one third of parliament members have the right to request to amend one and more constitutional article or more and with approval of the majority of MPs of the principle of amendments the parliament discusses, two months after the amendments, and approve them except for some articles there is a condition of people referendum for the amendments.

It is to be pointed out that the GPC bloc represents more than 230 MPs which exceeds the two thirds of the Yemeni parliament members, totaling 301 members.

In the parliament session on Wednesday the MPs approved the state budget for the next year. The meeting was attended by Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Dr Abdul Karim al-Arhabi, the Finance Minister Nouman al-Suhaibi and a number of government officials.
