Almotamar.net - In continuation of the national dialogue , and to enhance opportunities of rapprochement and trust among parties of the partisan political matrix in Yemen and within the keenness of the General People’s Congress (GPC) on achieving the national accord on the constitutional amendments and holding the upcoming parliamentary elections with participation of all political parties in the national arena, the GPC ruling party has come up with a new initiative included response to demands of the Joint Meeting Parties (JMP) regarding defining the presidency term and adoption of proportionate representation list.

With regard to the subject of the constitutional amendments , particularly the article 112, the initiative stipulated “ either the presidency term remains for 7 years and for just two terms or to amend the 7-year term to 5 years and for two terms only , and according to what was included in the election platform of the President of the republic.”

As for the electors that have not yet registered, the GPC initiative indicated the possibility of registering any citizen at the legal age in the election record on the day of voting and to cast his vote.

The initiative included also the addition of the proportionate representation system to the draft constitutional amendments , provided that the law explains the way of carrying it out and that it should be applied in the after he next electoral session . And in order to reach a serious and responsible dialogue , the GPC initiative emphasised that the national dialogue should continue through leaders of the political parties and what is reached at to be submitted by them to their representatives at the national dialogue committee and then referred to the constitutional institution for approval.

It is to be mentioned that the parties of the JMP had at a previous time refused a GPC initiative for formation of a coalition government to supervise on the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled on 27 April 2011 and continuation of this government regardless of results of the elections.
