Almotamar.net - Sana’a- Assistant Secretary General of the General People’s Congress (GPC) Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani and with him Assistant Secretary General of the GPC De Ahmed Ubeid bin Daghr met in Sana’a on Tuesday Mr John Brennan ,Advisor of the Us President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism.
In the meeting al-Barakani presented a comprehensive review of what Yemen is witnessing and the political crisis ongoing for more than five months, pointing to what Yemen is witnessing during this period of coup attempts against the constitutional legitimacy embodied by attack on the state institutions in Al-Hasaba area by armed gangs and the confrontations the armed forces and security are waging against elements of al-Qaeda organization in Abyan province.
Al-Barakani also pointed to the dangers threatening security and stability of Yemen and the region and world interests due to expansion of al-Qaeda activity in Yemen, which would not have happened unless the political crisis and link of some parties of the crisis with al-Qaeda and he said that the first beneficiary of this crisis is al-Qaeda organization, extremism and terror.
He pointed out the negative reflections of the crisis on the economic situations and the living and social life of the citizens especially in the field of power, oil products and gas as a result of acts of blocking committed by some parties of the crisis.
Al-Barakani indicated that the armed action that exceeded all peaceful slogans extended to the head of the state and the state senior officials in the terrorist attack, has constituted a turning-point in the political crisis in addition to al-Qaeda taking control of Zanjibar and looting the state institutions in Al-Hasaba and some provinces and that no solution before the Yemenis but by the dialogue and respect of the constitution and the peaceful transfer of power and respect of the electors will.
Al-Barakani added, “: We strongly believe that the United states and out friends in the west are still committed to the democratic values and their principles and our respect of the Gulf initiative as a groundwork for dialogue obliges all parties of the political action to work for forming the national unity government and put the issues on the dialogue table and its ground is the initiative and the search in its mechanism and timetables that are in agreement with the existing situations , the developments and statement of the UN Security Council , emphasizing that the GPC would be at the head for calling for partnership with partners of the political action , rejecting extremism , terror and the calls for alliance with backwardness and violence that some parties are leading and practicing it since their establishment.
We emphasise the importance of the role of United States as a partner of Yemen in fighting terror and extremism in sponsoring the dialogue with the brethren in the Gulf Cooperation Council , the friends in the European Union and the United Nations and the great popular asset of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his historical role and his status in hearts of the Yemenis and with him the GPC , would help success of the dialogue and taking Yemen out of crises and achievement of the modern civil state which we all aspire for and we think that is the right behavior that all parties must adopt. “
Al-Barakani praised the role played by the Vice President Abed Rabou Mansour Hadi since the incident of targeting the president and the senior officials of the state, pointing out the role the Vice President played that led to cohesion f state institution and their capability of confronting dangers especially dangers of al-Qaeda organisation and the initiative of truce , departure of gunmen from provincial capitals , removal of barricades and barriers , opening roads between provinces , restoration of oil and gas pipelines and electricity to the normal situation and his endeavors for holding serious and sincere dialogue among parties of political work , thanking brethren and friends for their support of the Vice President efforts. He affirmed that the GPC works with the Vice President for achieving the goals and reaching any results serving the general interest of the homeland.
For his part the GPC Secretary General Dr Ahmed Ubeid bin Daghr affirmed that the present crisis emphasised that no party can overcome another party, indicating if there was no national accord reached via the dialogue, al-Qaeda would be the alternative for all those parties and Yemen’s interests would be exposed to danger and consequently the security of the region and the world.
Member of the GPC General Committee Abdullah Ahmed Ghanim said there is no alternative to the dialogue between the GPC and the opposition, pointing out that the opposition says in its statements that it refuses the dialogue and that increases escalation of the political crisis, stressing that the dialogue must be the solution because the alternative to dialogue is the war.
For his part the US official John Brennan affirmed his country’s support for Yemen’s unity, security and stability. He pointed to his visit to President Ali Abdullah Saleh in Riyadh and said he was happy for his health condition and found him in good health and mental state.
Brennan indicated that Present Saleh has influence more than any other Yemeni at this stage and he has worked much for Yemen and “we do not wish his efforts be gone with the wind.”
Brennan affirmed his country strongly supports Yemen efforts in fighting terror, indicating the concern of his country of the expansion of al-Qaeda danger and the confrontation presently going on in Abyan and praised what the Yemeni armed forces are doing in confronting al-Qaeda, saying many of the Yemenis have sacrificed their lives for defending their country and that they are committed to support the Yemeni armed forces until they overcome al-Qaeda cancer.
Hew pointed to his country’s keenness on that Yemen would overcome this crisis via dialogue which is the key for the political solution in Yemen, indicating to his country’s support for the Gulf initiative which calls for the peaceful transfer of power pointing out that mechanisms of the initiative are in need of modification and that they will work with all on those details and find the peaceful ways for solving the crisis in Yemen.
