almotamar.net - At least 51 NDC members from eastern Yemen announced on Monday that they were looking forward to forming an independent eastern region which would include al-Mahra, Hadhramout, and Shabwa governorates, along with Socotra Island.

In a statement read at a press conference at Sana'a's Movenpick Hotel, the representatives demanded that the new Yemeni state be a federal state, including several regions each region has its elected authorities tasked with the management in order to achieve its security and stability.

''We are looking forward to forming the eastern region ,'' the statement said. ''The region will have its legal personality and its elected authorities which tasked with managing the region and improving its resources,'' the statement added.

The statement also mentioned that the formation of the region would represent a positive step towards the achievement of a modern Yemeni state.

al-Khanbashi said that 51 members were from al-Mahra, Hadhramout, and Shabwa governorates, along with Socatra Island, were in person to sign the vision of the eastern region.

He added that they adhered to NDC outcomes in the present and previous sessions. In particular, they supported moves to provide southerners with 50% of army and security positions.

Moreover, NDC member Ahmed bin Habtoor, said that the announcement of the eastern region did not amount to a message to anyone. He added that was simply an approved NDC outcome.
