The Group of 77 + China elected unanimously Yemen’s ambassador and permanent delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Ahmed Sayyad as the president of the group.
The election was token place during a meeting of the Group of 77 + China, held on Friday in the French capital Paris with the presence of most of the Member States of the Group.
After his election, Sayyad said that he was pleased to preside over the Group of 77 + China, “which has a privileged position not in UNESCO only, but also within the United Nations in general”.
It was established on 15 June 1964 by seventy-seven developing countries signatories of the “Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Countries” issued at the end of the first session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.
