Almotamar.net - The House of Representatives on Sunday held a debate on the security situation in Yemen putting a special focus on security disorder in some governorates which have witnessed some deadly acts of terror and conflicts.

MPs stressed the importance to further improve the working and living conditions of the armed and security forces to motivate them to double their efforts in controlling the situation, mainly violence aimed at destabilizing the country.

They called on the government to have strong determination in order to pave the way for concrete measures to build competent security and military services capable of imposing the rule of law and punishing outlaws and terrorists.

Furthermore, they urged the political parties and civil society organizations to align efforts and have sincere will to complete the implementation of the Gulf Initiative for power transition including the outcomes of the national dialogue conference for the sake of building a modern country.

MPs said the parties and organizations should put the country's interest above anything else through putting aside their disagreements during the current turning point and with the aim to serve the public interests mainly protection of lives and properties.

The debate came days after the House decided to summon the defense and interior ministers over recent deadly operations against security forces including the attack on a security checkpoint in Hadramout governorate that killed 20 soldiers this month.

Yemen, which has successfully passed the most difficult transition stages following the 2011 unrest, has been fighting AQAP with US direct support.

Despite the devastating blows AQAP has received including the killing of many of its leaders and operatives since 2012, the most dangerous branch of Al-Qaeda continues to carry out deadly operations, mostly against military and security personnel and installations, that pose threats to the country's security and stability.

On the other hand, Yemen is struggling to cope with economic woes deepened by repeated acts of sabotage against oil and gas projects and widespread corruption at public offices.

In the past few years, attacks on energy projects have cost the country dearly, more than $4.7 billion, at a time when Yemen continues to depend largely on oil incomes.
