Almotamar.net - Kuwait has renewed its commitment to continue to support Yemeni government's efforts to combat poverty and achieve the political and economic stability.
Director of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) Abd-Al-Wahab Al-Bader, head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the 7th meeting of Friends of Yemen Group, confirmed on Wednesday ,in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), that the stability of the political situation in Yemen represents a major importance to the State of Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for the Arab Gulf States.
"The GCC states are one of the biggest supporters to the development programs in Yemen as the aid and grants provided by the GCC countries form about 70% of the total international aid", Al-Bader said.
He pointed out that Kuwait pledged ,during the previous meeting of Yemen Friends in New York, to provide US$ 500 million to Yemen over three years, US$ 50 million of which is a grant and the remaining US$ 450 million in the form of soft loans through the KAFED, to finance the development projects contained in the phased program for the years 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Al-Bader pointed out that the Kuwaiti Fund signed in last February a US$ 60 million agreement to finance the establishment and equipping of 13 colleges specializing in technical education in 12 Yemeni provinces.
The Kuwaiti official revealed that a Kuwaiti mission would visit Yemen next month to agree on the implementation of projects in the areas of electricity and rural roads.
